Electrical & Electronic design
From initial concept through development to prototype, production and long-term support, we have the know-how and expertise to ensure your embedded electronics project is a success. Our extensive experience ranges from the design of high-end industrial devices to consumer electronics, and pretty much everything in between.
Mechanical, Product and Industrial design
It’s important to consider the mechanical design early in the development cycle, as these decisions directly affect everything in the product including the PCB. Is the PCB mounted in an enclosure? - affects dimensions, mounting points etc. What’s the required environmental rating / operating temperature of the product? - affects component choices, connectors etc. We can assist you with the mechanical requirements, drawing on our in-house expertise. If you require custom enclosures or industrial design, we work closely with several talented local firms and can either seamlessly manage this on your behalf or make an introduction.
Software development
We specialise in the development of software that interacts with your device. Whether you need a mobile App, a desktop application, or a cloud-based service, we can provide the solution!
Firmware development
What is it? Embedded firmware is a specific class of software that provides the low-level control for a device's hardware. We have decades worth of expertise developing firmware for devices. 8 to 32-bit microcontrollers, from all the major manufacturers, bare metal to RTOS, we can help turn your idea into reality.
Design-to-cost
Design-To-Cost (DTC) is one of the most important, and often overlooked aspects of a new product design. Cost must be designed into the product from the earliest concept phase, as they are virtually impossible to remove later. Here at innov8 we are experts in DTC for new products, and old hands at cost reducing existing designs. If you want us to look at an existing design, please contact us.
Design for Manufacture
Every product we develop, we design with an eye towards manufacturing and assembly from the outset. Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is the process of designing parts, components or products for ease of manufacturing with an end goal of making a better product at a lower cost. Ideally, DFM needs to occur early in the process, well before physical design has begun.
Value for money design
'Work is a thing you do, not a place you go to' We don’t have a fancy office in Belfast or Dublin filled with beanbags. From the start innov8 have encouraged our engineers and sub-contractors to work remotely, wherever they are. This enables us to hire the best talent regardless of location and allows us to keep our overheads low. It’s good for the planet and our staff, but most importantly we’re able to pass the savings on to you the customer. Wherever possible we use open-source CAD programmes for our designs. Most notably KiCad for schematic and PCB layout, GCC as our software complier, and FreeCAD for mechanical design. Yet again, more saving we can share with you!
